Creating & Linking Your Turkish Mate Introduction Video

Your introduction video is a vital part of your application. It allows students to see and hear you, understand your teaching style, and feel more comfortable choosing you as their tutor. Follow these steps precisely:

1. Video Content Guidelines

  • Introduce Yourself: State your name, and briefly mention your background relevant to teaching Turkish.
  • Experience & Style: Talk about your teaching experience (years, types of students) and your teaching methodology (e.g., conversational, grammar-focused, immersive).
  • Motivation: Briefly explain why you enjoy teaching Turkish.
  • Length: Aim for 1 to 3 minutes. Keep it concise and engaging.
  • Language: Speak clearly in the language(s) your target students would understand (usually English and/or Turkish).
  • Appearance: Look professional, ensure good lighting so your face is visible, and record in a quiet place with clear audio.
CRITICAL WARNING: Absolutely DO NOT include any personal contact information in your video (no phone numbers, email addresses, social media profiles, websites, etc.). Sharing such information will result in your application being rejected.

2. Uploading Your Video to YouTube (The Correct Way)

You need to upload your video to YouTube and get a specific type of link.

  1. A. Go to YouTube Studio (studio.youtube.com). You'll need a Google/YouTube account.
  2. B. Click the "Create" button (usually top right), then select "Upload videos". (See video 0:57 - 1:01)
  3. C. Click "Select files" and choose your recorded introduction video from your computer. (See video 1:01 - 1:04)
  4. D. Details Tab:
    • Enter a clear Title (e.g., "Turkish Lessons with [Your Name] - Turkish Mate Intro").
    • You can add a brief Description if you wish.
    • Scroll down to the "Audience" section and select "No, it's not made for kids". (See video 1:21 - 1:23)
    • Click "Next".
  5. E. Video Elements Tab: You can usually just click "Next" here unless you want to add specific YouTube features (not required for the application). (See video 1:24)
  6. F. Checks Tab: YouTube will check for copyright issues. Once complete, click "Next". (See video 1:25)
  7. G. Visibility Tab (MOST IMPORTANT STEP!):
    • Under "Save or publish", select "Unlisted".
    • Why Unlisted? This means only people who have the specific link can watch the video. It won't appear in search results or on your channel page.
    • Do NOT select "Private" (only you can see it).
    • Do NOT select "Public" (everyone can see it).
    • Selecting "Unlisted" is mandatory for your application.
    (See video 1:27 - 1:29)
  8. H. Copy the Link: Once you select "Unlisted", YouTube will show the unique video link. Click the "Copy" icon next to this link. (See video 1:30 - 1:32)
  9. I. Click the "Save" button on YouTube. (See video 1:34)

3. Adding the Link to Your Turkish Mate Application

  • Go back to the "Profile Media" section of your Turkish Mate tutor application form.
  • Find the field labelled "Introduction video".
  • Paste the unique Unlisted YouTube link you copied in the previous step directly into this field. (See video 1:34 - 1:35)

That's it! Ensure the link you pasted starts with `https://youtu.be/` or `https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=` and is the correct Unlisted link from YouTube.
