What happens if my tutor cancels a lesson?

We understand that tutors, like students, may occasionally need to cancel a lesson due to unforeseen circumstances. Rest assured, if your tutor cancels a scheduled lesson, you will not lose your payment or lesson credit.

Notification

When a tutor cancels a lesson, you should typically receive a notification through the Turkish Mate platform (check your dashboard notifications) and possibly via email, depending on your account settings. The cancelled lesson will also usually be marked as such in your "My Lessons" schedule.

Automatic Resolution (Lesson Credit/Refund)

Our system is designed to handle tutor cancellations fairly. In most cases, when a tutor cancels, the following happens automatically:

  • The lesson credit or payment you used for that booking is automatically returned to your Turkish Mate account.
  • This credit is then available for you to use to book another lesson, either with the same tutor at a different time or with a completely different tutor.

You don't usually need to take any action to get your credit back when the cancellation originates from the tutor.

Your Options After a Tutor Cancellation

Once you've been notified and received your lesson credit back, you have several options:

  • Reschedule with the Same Tutor: If you still wish to have the lesson with that tutor, you can check their updated availability and book a new time slot using the returned credit. You might want to send them a quick message via the platform to coordinate.
  • Book with a Different Tutor: Take this opportunity to explore other instructors! Use the returned credit to book a lesson (perhaps starting with a short introductory one) with another tutor who meets your needs.
  • Wait and Decide Later: The lesson credit will remain in your account (subject to any expiration policies, if applicable). You can use it whenever you're ready to book your next lesson.
